I experienced something amazing this summer. Do you know the Great Salt Lake has 5-8 times the amount of salt in it as the ocean!?!?! That means when there's that much salt in the water, it lifts you up, holds you up ... without any strain or struggle. We could just lay back and be gently suspended by the salty water that held us gently without effort.
As an extension of Stinkin' Water yesterday, consider that our speech is supposed to be filled with salt .... to lift others up!
Colossians 4:6 (NASB)
6Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.
The Message gives this insight:Wouldn't it be wonderful if our speech was so full of "salt" seasoning that we helped to lift others above their struggle, ministering grace to others? It's often hardest at home, but just as it's often where we learn to cook with seasoning, so we can learn to speak with seasoning at home, too.
5-6Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don't miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.
When is it hardest for you to have salty speech?
